Fine, tonneau-shaped, center seconds, water-resistant, stainless steel chronometer wristwatch with date and integrated, stainless steel Rolex Oyster bracelet. Accompanied by a service invoice from Rolex, Geneva, dated May 13, 1988 along with correspondence, a copy of a Rolex advertisement, a pamphlet on Wally Herbert, and a letter from Wally Herbert confirming the use of this timepiece on two Arctic Expeditions. Three-body, polished and brushed, polished bezel, screwed down case back and crown, sapphire crystal with cyclops lens. Satiné silver with applied steel baton indexes and luminous dots, outer minute/seconds divisions, aperture for the date. Luminous steel baton hands. Cal. 5035 with quartz standardization, rhodium-plated, 11 jewels, adjusted to temperature, hack mechanism. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 36 mm. Thickness 14 mm Notes Sir Walter William "Wally" Herbert (24 October 1934 - 12 June 2007) was an English polar explorer, writer and artist. In 1969 he became the first man to walk undisputed to the North Pole. He wore this Oysterquartz on his 1971 expedition to Greenland, during which he made a film on the polar Eskimos, and in 1979, when he circumnavigated Greenland.
