$45,600
Turn-O-Graph US Japanese Naval Base Rolex, "Turn-O-Graph, Oyster Perpetual”, Ref. 6202. Made in 1953. Fine and very rare, center seconds, self-winding, water-resistant, stainless steel wristwatch with bi-directional revolving black bezel and a stainless steel Rolex Oyster bracelet. Accompanied by its original fitted box, hang tag, price tag and cigarette card. Three-body, polished and brushed, screwed-down case back and crown, bi-directional revolving graduated black bezel with red arrow showing the zero point. Off-white honeycomb with applied faceted baton indexes, outer minute/seconds track. Steel dauphine hands. Cal. 620, rhodium-plated, 19 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock absorber, self-compensating Breguet balance spring. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 35 mm. Thickness 13 mm. Notes IIt is exceptionally rare to find early Turn-o-Graphs in mint condition. They were often used as everyday watches and usually show heavy wear. This time-capsule example was bought new at the Ship’s Store at the US Naval base in Yokosuka for a price of $ 66.50 (as indicated on its accompanying price tag). Amazingly, the price is also written on the side of the outer box and the watch still retains its caseback sticker. It is without a doubt the finest example of Reference 6202 to appear at auction to date.
