Dent, Watchmaker to The Queen, 61 Strand & 4 Royal Exchange, London, No 43748, the case with London hallmarks for 1887-1888. Fine, 18K gold, hunting-cased keyless pocket watch. Three-body, "bassine et filets", mastermark EM, engine-turned with polished borders and band. Frosted gilt dust cap. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at IX. Blued steel spade hands. 40 mm, 17”’, frosted gilt, 3/4 plate, spring barrel secured by a bridge, lateral lever escapement with lift on the pallets, cut bimetallic compensation balance with gold meantime and temperature adjustment screws, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 49 mm Notes Edward John Dent (1790 – 1853) Acelebrated maker, worked with Richard Rippon circa 1810 and on his own account in 1814. The firm of Arnold and Dent was active from 1830 to 1840, after which he worked alone.
