A. Brockie Stevenson (American 1919-2009) "Peruvian Village Scene"-1949. Watercolor on paper painting depicting a South American village in Peru with red rolling hills or mountains in background behind unornamented village buildings and homes. Figures outside working, palying and resting. A brown donkey stands just left of center facing a man leaning against a building with a large red Coca Cola billboard advertisement overhead. Signed and dated lower right "A. Brockie Stevenson, Chorrillos, Peru 1949". Framed under glass 22" x 29.25". Unframed approximately 16" x 23.5". Stevenson's art is well regarded in the field of American Realism. His work can be found in the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Corcoran Gallery. This work was painted a during his time in Peru while on scholarship. He stayed in South America for seven years to paint before moving back to the United States to teach.
