Center Seconds & Calendar (Bazile) Charles Le Roy a Paris. Made circa 1800. Very fine and rare, silver pocket watch with center-seconds, calendar and regulator dial. Two-body, “Directoire”, polished, inclined bezel. White enamel, regulator type, small mean time dial in the lower half of the dial with Arabic numerals and outer dot minute divisions, concentric date and day of the week dial in the upper half, outer seconds divisions. Gold lozenge hour and minute hands, steel seconds hands. 45 mm., frosted gilt, conical pillars, fusee and chain, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance, flat balance spring, pierced and chased continental balance cock, silver regulation dial. Dial and movement signed. Diam. 56 mm. Notes Le Roy A watchmaking dynasty founded by Bazile-Charles Le Roy, whose father, Bazile Le Roy, was himself a fine watchmaker. Bazile- Charles Le Roy settled in the Palais Royal in 1788, first at 88, Galerie de Pierre, then at 13-15 of the same Galerie. He signed Le Roy, Palais Royal, or Le Roy, Galerie Egalité. Under the Reign of Terror, Le Roy adopted the anagram Eylor, only resuming his real name after the Revolution. During the First Empire, Le Roy supplied watches and clocks to the Imperial family and in 1806 was appointed Clockmaker to Madame Mère, the Emperor's mother. He then signed Le Roy, Hgr de S A I & R (Son Altesse Impériale et Royale), Madame Mère de l'Empereur et Roi.
