Kuelper, Brueg, German, circa 1720. Very rare oval silver-gilt tobacco box combined with a watch. Hinged two-piece lid, engraved with scenes of a pipe smoker on the tobacco compartment side and a scientist on the watch side, both seated at a table, the border with foliage and scrollwork, the underside with rococo foliage (gilding slightly rubbed). Engraved and matted gilt dial plate with inset regulator disk and balancing dummy disk to the right. Silver champleve dial with Roman hour and Arabic minute numerals. Blued-steel beetle-and-poker hands. D-Shaped part-gilt plates, turned pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement with plain steel balance under the dial. Flat spring. Signed on the dial. In good condition. Dim. 86mm x 57 mm.
