Lepaute & Fils, Her. du Poi, Paris, No. 1734, circa 1740. Fine and rare, gilt bronze, hour striking and repeating carriage clock with alarm and special escapement. One piece, glazed on four panels, finely chased with formal decoration, the back door engraved with scrolls, the winding holes with shutters. White enamel with Roman numerals and subsidiary alarum setting dial. Blued steel " trefle" hands. Eight day going, double train with going barrels. Special Paul Garnier frictionalrest escapement drawn from the Debaufre escapement, plain brass three armed balance, flat balance spring. Alarm, striking and repeating on a bell, the repeating train released by a push piece on the top. Signed on the top and the back plate. In very good condition. Dim. 13 x 10 x 8cm., without the handle. Notes However it is signed Lepaute & Fils, this clock is typical of the last development of the carriage clocks produced by Paul Garnier.
