Jaques Joly (Geneva ), circa 1650. Fine gilt-metal and rock-crystal watch. Duo-decagonal lobed two-part frame the borders engraved with hatched patterns, with lobed rock-crystal cover and back. Loose-ring pendant and button finial. GiIt-brass dial plate with Iater applied silver chapter-ring of contemporary style, with Roman numerals, the centre engraved with an urban scene. Later pierced brass hand. Gilt-brass plates, turned balluster pillars, fusee with chain, short train, verge escape-ment with plain two-arm steel balance without spring. Irregular oval pierced and foliate engraved cock, worm-and-wheel set-up with blued-steel brackets and silver disk. Signed on the movement. In very good condition. Diam. 40 mm. Notes Jaques Joly (1), working in Geneva, baptised in1622, died1694. Apprenticed to Jacques Sermand, his uncle in 1635, Master 1645. Specialised in enamel and crystal- cased watches.
