Farjaire à Paris, No. 578, circa 1790. Unusual silver self winding watch with dates. Slightly later double body, Empire, the engine-turned back centered with a star and with rocaille decoration on the border. White enamel with Arabic numerals and inner red calendar ring (hair line and slightly restored on the border). GiIt brass full plate inverted, with cylindrical pillars, going barrel, cylinder escapement with plain brass three armed balance on the dial plate, flat balance spring. The giIt winding weight, shaped as an air balloon, finely engraved with scrolls, is pivoted on the edge of the back plate with spring bankers. Signed on the dial and the back plate. In good condition. Diam. 55 mm. Notes Interesting example of a self winding watch produced at the end of the XVlllth century. The Arabic numerals of the dial, are typical of that invented by Jean Antoine Lepine as soon as 1775 and used by Breguet for most of his early work. The form of the winding weight refers to the first balloon ascent by Pilâtre de Rozier, on 21 Novembre 1783.
