Anonymous, South German, dated 1617. Fine and rare weight-driven striking wall clock, with painted iron case. Iron doors with green painted decoration, the tops with cut-out and painted winged angel heads, one side with the date, the other with initiais AL, the back with a hook and spikes, the bell standard secured with a pin. Iron, the white painted chapter-ring with black Roman numerals, the surround with foliage and also crested with an angel. Single pierced steel hand. Bar construction with iron plates, iron trains throughout, thin ropes running in serrated pulleys, verge escapement with balancewheel (restored). Hand-setting by a key square below the lockIng-plate hour-striking with outside count-wheel. In good condition Dims. 300 x 125 x 125 mm. Notes Although South Germany would seem to be the obvious choice for the origin of this clock, the area of Strasburg has been suggested.
