Anonymous, South German, circa 1585 Exceptionally rare gilt-metal striking and alarm table clock with sliding fit case. Cast gilt brass base attached to the sides, with four columns cast with ranis head and acanthus foliage; one side with the avenging angel, the other with a musical allegory the front and back with boar-hunting scenes. Top plate attached to the movement, engraved with hatched foliage and supporting the bell strap and turned finial surmounted by a figure of George slaying the dragon. Both dials attached to the movement, the main with engraved hour chapters, calibrated I - XII, 13 - Z4, with half-hour divisions and touch studs; concentric alarm setting disc with Arabic numerals. Single bluedsteel hand. Réverse with hour strike dial, the centre engraved with arabesque foliage. Lantern frame with turned balluster pillars all in iron, the gut fusees and trains also of iron (18th. century brass barrels), goingtrain with balance-wheel verge escapement (restored), without spring, locking plate striking(count-wheel now in brass) by vertical hammer arbor, the iron alarm train mounted on the side. originally with a an extra thin plate below for movement feet.
