Estienne Ester, Geneva, circa 1660. Rare small silver-gilt and gold piqué pair-cased watch. White enamel on copper, with Roman numerals, half and quarter divisions, the centre with a foliage motif. Single blued-steel tulip hand. Gilt-brass full plate with turned balluster pillars, fusee with gut, short train with verge escapement and plain two-arm steel balance. without spring. Florally pierced and engraved oval gilt brass cock secured by a screw. Worm-andwheel set-up with silver regulator disk (pointer lacking). Signed on the backplate. In good condition. Diam. 37 mm. . Notes Etienne Ester, son of Jean-Henry, apprenticed to Jean- Baptiste Duboule in 1643, Master 1652, still working in 1684
