Berthoud à Paris, circa 1780. Very fine 18 ct. two coloured gold, and enamel, diamond and pearl-set quarter repeating watch. Double body, Louis XVI, the rose-diamond set bezel chased with a twisted rope, the back with a pearl-set temple of Love, doves, symbols of fidelity and further raised green enamel foliage against amati ground, outer garland of raised green enamel foliage set with split pearls. White enamel with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring, the half hour divisions inlaid with rose-diamonds. Diamond-set Louis XVI hands. GiIt brass, full plate with cylindri cal pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass Louis XVI continental cock with polished steel end-piece. Repeating on a bell by depressing the pendant. Signed on the dial and back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 40 mm.
