Swiss, signed Breguet & Fils, made for the Islamic market, circa 1810. Exceptionally fine 18 ct. gold and enamel pair cased eight day, quarter repeating watch. Outer decorated overall, the bezels with champlevé scrolled foliage, polychrome military trophies on a translucent ground of red enamel in the center. Inner case, with matching bezels, the back panel with a lakeside scene of a watermill with opalescent sky, by Richter-Troll. Gold cuvette with basse-taille enamelled flowers on a pale blue ground (small repairs). White enamel, Turkish numerals, secret signature.Blued steel Breguet hands. Gilt brass, large barrel, overhangingg ruby cylinder escapement, parachute and bimetallic compensation curb. Very good condition. Diam. 66 mm. This watch represents the highest quality of Geneva workmanship and enamelling. Breguet himself ordered watches with similar enamelled decoration on the cases for Le Roy, his agent in Constantinople. Due to his fame, his work was much imitated, and in this case, his signature, secret signature and all the French Hallmarks, including the Joly Master mark have been reproduced.The gold work and enamel decoration are ij anything better than on the examples commanded by Breguet.Indeed Richter and Troll were considered to he the best painters of landscape scenes and signed examples of their work are very rare.
