V. Bousset (?), France, circa 1880. Fine, large and rare gilt brass Grande and Petite Sonnerie striking, repeating and alarm carriage clock, with thermometer retrogade week day indication and full calendar, with fitted case. White enamel with Roman hour and Arabic minute numerals, subsidiaries above for months, silvered alarm setting ring below. Florally engraved and gilt mask with apertures for centigrade thermometer and retrograde week day, with engraved silvered scales. Blued-steel Breguet hands. Notes A very rare configuration of carriage clock. The punch mark may probably be that of Victorien Bousset of Morez in the Jura. His work and the probable attribution are discussed by C. Allix in Carriage Clocks, p. 203, 204, and in the Biography section, p. 433, 434, where the punch mark is illustrated. A very similar clock, but with barometer and moon is also illustrated.
