Thomas Loomes, Londini, circa 1665. Fine silver pair-cased astronomical watch with annual calendar,and tidal indication. Double body outer, leather covered with silver pin work decoration. Inner, double body, plain and polished with winding shutter, split bezel and loose pendant ring. Polished silver chapter-ring with Roman numerals and rubricated inner ring for lunar calendar. Central revolving moon-phase disc with blued-steel pointer indicating the hour of high tide on a manually adjustable ring. Outer edge with revolving date ring and manually set silver month circle. Single "tulip" blued-steel hand. Gilt brass full-plate, turned baluster pillars, three wheel train with fusee and gut line, wormandwheel set-up with blued-steel brackets and silver disc. Verge escapement with plain balance without spring, florally pierced oval cock secured by a screw. Signed on the back plate. hn good condition. Diam. 56 mm. Notes The rise and Tall of the tides was clearly of importance in a port city, such as London, but few watches exist which are able to calculate such information. On this watch, all the information necessary (months, number of days, date and moon phase) is provided and can be adjusted for any location.
