Lawrence Saufkie (American Indian (Hopi Pueblo, Bear Clan), 1935-2011). A sterling silver belt buckle of curved rectangular form with traditional Native American linear and geometric incised patterning to front, the motif mirrored horizontally with maze-like key patterns to side flanking central stair step form surrounding a domed form, possibly representative of fire. With fixtures to verso for attaching to belt. Marked to backside "SAUFKIE" between an impressed bear form and "STERLING". Approximately 2.875" wide x 2" tall (75mm x 50mm). Total approximate weight 57.3 grams (1.84 troy ounces).
