Breguet Neveu & Cie. , No. 4805, Horloge Marine à deux barillets, petit modèle sold to the Ministère de la Marine on the lst September 1834 for 2400 Francs. Fine two day marine chronometer with double barrels, in mahogany box. Two part solid mahogany box with slide on the lid over the observation aperture, external brass handles and fittings. Brass bowl suspended in oval gimbles. Mat silver, small eccentric chapter ring with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring, symmetrically positioned subsidiary seconds. Blued steel "spade" hands. Brass half plate with conical pillars secured by screws, two barrels separately wound, navette shaped platform escapement No. 153 with spring detent escapement, bimetallic two armed compensation balance with poising and timing screws, free sprung blued steel helical balance spring with terminal curves and adjustable stud. In very good condition. Dial diam. 90 mm. Dim. 17x21 x18 cm. Notes This chronometer demonstrates Breguet's remarkable talent for approaching almost any branch of horology, from a completely new direction. Technically it is quite different from the work of his contemporaries: double barrels replacing the customary fusee, and the escapement mounted on a separate platform for easy removal and repair.
