L'Epine à Paris, No. 15939, circa 1780. Fine 18 ct. three coloured gold and enamel, diamond-set, quarter repeating watch in a glazed gilt brass protecting case. Double body, Louis XVI, with diamond set pendant and bow, the rose-diamond set bezel chased with foliage decoration against a matted ground, the back centred with a fine enamel panel in a rose-diamond set frame, painted with a scene depicting "Venus and Cupid", outer chased floral decoration against an engraved ground. White enamel with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring. Rose diamond set Louis XV hands. Hinged gilt brass full plate with conical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three arm-balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass Louis XVI continental cock with polished steel end-piece. Repeating on a bell by depressing the pendant. Signed on the back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 40 mm. with the outer protecting case.
