New England Watch Co. , Waterbury, Connecticut circa 1898-1912. Fine nickel skeletonised keyless watch with special escapement. Three piece, "bassine", glazed on both faces, with reeded band. Frosted and gilt, skeletonised, with Arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds. GiIt brass "Louis XV" hands. Full plate, skeletonised with going barrel, single wheel duplex escapement, monometallic balance with screws, flat balance spring. Signed on the back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 52 mm. Notes Fine example of an American mass production watch with the famous single wheel duplex escapement with the punched escape wheel, adopted by Waterbury for most of the "one dollar watches". An identical watch from The Time Museum, Rockford, Illinois, is described and illustrated by Donald R. Hoke, in The Time Museum Historical Catalogue of American Pocket Watches, 1991, p. 249, No. 231.
