John Marie, London, No. 658, French, with Paris hallmarks for 1771. Fine and rare large silver watch with special escapement. Double body, Louis XV, polished. White enamel with Arabic numerals and outer Arabic minute ring; gold Louis XV hands. Hinged gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, double wheel frictional rest escapement of Debaufre type, as improved by Pierre Le Roy the eldest, plain brass three-arm balance with flat balance spring, gilt brass continental cock with polished steel end-piece. Signed on the dial and back plate. In good condition. Diam. 64 mm. Notes Jean Marie is recorded as working in Paris in 1781, rue Froimanteaux and is also known to have worked in London.
