J. Girardoni in Wien, circa 1800. Rare silver watch with special calibre and unusual pin-wheel type escapement: Later specially made, with reeded band and engine-turned back. White enamel with Roman numerals. Blued steel Breguet type hands. Hinged gilt brass, the back plate of smaller diameter, with turned pillars, fusee with chain, unusual triangular, single pallet pin-wheel escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring. Signed on the back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 61 mm. - _ Notes Very fine example of watch with the rare form of pin-wheel escapement. Previously in the collection of The Time Museum, this watch was sold by Sotheby's in New York on 11 December 1986, lot 156 of the catalogue.
