Exceptionally rare and fine 18 ct. gold and diamonds lady's wristwatch with gold bangle decorated with two carved caryatids figuring the lugs. massive, polished, engraved band, revolving engraved bezel for winding-up the watch, entirely set with diamonds. White enamel with painted blue and red Arabie numerals. "Moderne" gold hands. Notes The first wristwatch officially registered by Vacheron Constantin is dated 1911. With this piece of 1889, we date back to 22 years before, which means that this wristwatch is undoubtly the oldest one ever made in the modern concept and spirit of wristwatches. Gustave Sandoz, Palais Royal 147-148 was a famous retailer in Paris. At the "Exposition Universelle de Paris" in 1889, he presented precision watches, docks and chronometers, at the stand No 241. He was awarded with a gold Medal at the "Amsterdam Exhibition" in 1883. After that, he took part to the "Barcelona Exhibition" 1888, as "hors concours", were he was President of the Jury. He also was "Officier de la Légion d'Honneur".
