Barraud, London, No. 7223, Swiss, circa 1840. Rare and interesting silver watch with Patent Vertical Escapement. Three body, "forme quatre baguettes" with fixed cuvette. White enamel with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds (hair lines). Blued steel Breguet hands. Hinged gilt brass half plate with going barrel, frictional-rest escapement of Debaufre type with double "Chaff Cutter" escape wheel and single pallet as used by Olivier Cartier from Le Locle and Paul Garnier in Paris for carriage clocks. Signed on the dial and movement. In very good condition. Diam. 48 mm. Notes Known as "Ormskirk Verge" this escapement was also used toward the same period by British Preston watch manufacturers. Sold by Christie's in New-York on 17-12-86, lot No. 435 of the catalogue.
