Marckwick Markham, London, made for the Islamic market, circa 1770. Very fine and extremely rare 18 ct. gold and enamel, diamond-set ring-watch, in original fitted box with original crank-key. Three body with rose-diamond set bezel and sides, the back of green translucent enamel with painted flowers "en rondebosse". White enamel with Turkish numerals (slightly restored). Blued steel "poker and beetle" hands. Very small gilt brass full plate (12 mm.), with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three arm balance, flat balance spring, English gilt brass cock. Signed on the dial. In very good condition. Diam. 17 mm. Notes Previously in the Bellin collection, this ring-watch appears to be the smallest ever made at this early period. The technique of enameling "en ronde-bosse", over a translucent enamel is extremely rare as well.
