J. Régis à Aubin (Aveyron), circa 1900. Fine and rare walnut cased, weight driven, wall regulator, with electric remontoire centre seconds and gravity constant force escapement, acting as a master clock. Glazed, moulded with acanthus and further formai carved decoration. White enamel chapter ring with Roman numerals, the escapement visible in the centre. Polished steel Breguet hands. Brass, driven by a small weight electrically rewound.Gravity type constant force escapement invented by J. Regis himself. Signed on the dial. In very good condition. Dim. 175 x 38 x 15 cm. Notes Regis was awarded a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900 for a regulator identical to the one now offered for sale. In the absence of any illustration in the Exhibition catalogue, it is impossible to confirm that this is the actual clock. According to Regis, such regulators could run 5 years without attention. The gravity constant force escapement is described with two plates, in the report on the Exhibition, published in the Revue Chrononiétrrque, 1901, pp. 150 - 153.
