Claude Raillard à Paris, circa 1720. Fine and large Louis XIV "oignon" movement, mounted in a gilt brass case toward the end of the XVIIIth century. Double body, Louis XVI, polished. White enamel, Tate XVIIIth century, with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring. Gilt brass Louis XV hands. Hinged gilt brass full plate with Egyptian pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance with short balance spring and rack regulator. Gilt brass Regence cock pierced and chased with foliage. Signed on the back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 76 mm. Notes Interesting example of a watch made toward the end of the XVIIIth century with an early movement. Eminent maker, Claude Raillard, the fourth of the name was the author of an important study on the watch and clock-maker's guild in Paris.
