Unsigned, Swiss, made for the Chinese Market, circa 1790. Fine 18 ct. gold and enamel, pearl-set centre seconds watch. Double body with split-pearl set bezels, the enamel back panel painted with a scene of a courting couple in a landscape within a paillone frame, over a blue translucent engine-turned ground. Hinged frosted and gilt cuvette. White enamel with Breguet numerals. Gold "spade" hands. Gilt brass, Chinese calibre drawn from that of Lepine, the free standing barrel and bridges engraved with decoration, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring and regulator. In very good condition. Diam. 51 mm. Notes The movement of this watch is very similar to that made by the Jaquet-Droz workshop for watches produced for the Chinese Market.
