Richard Clarke, London, No. 2667, with London hallmarks for 1791. Fine 18 ct. gold and enamel pair cased, pearl-set watch. Outer double body, with split-pearl set bezels, the back of blue translucent enamel over engineturning (slightly restored). Inner double body, bassine, polished. White enamel with radial Arabic numerals. Gold arrow hands. Hinged gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel threearm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass English cock with diamond end-stone. Signed on the back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 49 mm. Notes Frederick Augustus, Duke of York and Aluiany (1763-1827) was the second son of King George III. He was educated with the greatest care at Kew and became the constant companion of his eider brother The Prince Regent, later King George IV. In 1767 he was invested Knight of the Bath and in 1771 a Knight of the Carter. He created a favourable impression in every court he visited, and in 1782 was presented to Frederick the Great. On 27 November 1784 Prince Frederick was made Duke of York. In 1787 the Duke of York returned to England where he was received with enthusiasm.
