Uti, Swiss, made for the French Market, circa 1960. "OISEAUX EN CAGE" Fine 18 ct. gold, gem-set pendant watch designed as a cage with two gem-set birds made in the colours of the French flag. Two part, the upper one in form of a cage with rock-crystal panels, the facing ruby and sapphire birds with diamond-set heads. Silver satiné with applied indexes. Blued steel "bâtons" hands. 4 - , rhodium plated," fausses côtes" decoration, 41-V.16 caliber, 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance, self compensating balance spring. Signed on the dial. In very good condition. Notes These cages were a revival in the 1960's of those created by Cartier during the War with birds in the colours of the French flag to symbolise the occupied home-land, at the end of the War they appeared with open cage-doors.
