Very fine 22I Double body bassine with polished bezel and loose-ring pendant, the back with a fine painted scene depicting "Mercury and the three Graces" after Simon Vouet, the band with landscape vignettes intersected by a floral panel painted en grisaille. Interior with a classical river-side landscape, a walking man on the foreground. White enamel with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring. Gold Louis XV hands. Hinged gilt brass with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass English cock. Signed on the back plate. In good condition. Diam. 38 mm. Notes Typical of the early work of Pierre Huaud le Pere, this case was certainly produced just before he was appointed as Master and therefore was not yet allowed to sign. The scene depicted on the back of this watch is copied from a celebrated painting by Simon Vouet after the Cesare Ripa iconography.
