Thomas Sully (American, 1783-1872) Portrait of a Gentleman , c. 1825-30. Monogrammed "TS" l.r. Oil on canvas, 29 x 23 3/8 in., unframed. Condition: Paint loss, surface grime, stretcher marks, craquelure, yellowed varnish. Minimal tacking edges top and bottom. Width of stretcher has been enlarged by 3/8 inch with wood strips added along one side. Monogram, which is faint and hard to read, is located on lower right, 4-1/2 inches up from the bottom and 4-1/2 inches in from the right side.
