American School, 19th Century Portrait of a Young Woman. Unsigned. Oil on canvas, c. 1810, reportedly depicting a young woman named Miss Davis, of Marshfield, Massachusetts, 13 x 11 in., in a period molded, painted, and gilded frame. Condition: Small patch with associated retouch u.c., minor scattered spots of retouch. This portrait has not been lined and the canvas is still on the original stretcher. There is a small patch with associated retouch u.c., minor scattered spots of retouch. The patch with retouch is about 1/2 in. dia. on eyebrow area above left facing eye, and other scattered minor spots of retouch on her face, dress, and background. The painting was inherited by a family in Scituate, MA and was found in a storage container which was with a number of other items pertaining to a woman- Miss Davis from Marshfield, Massachusetts.
