Federal Carved Mahogany Tall Case Clock, Aaron Willard, Roxbury, Massachusetts, c. 1790, the 12 in. painted iron dial with moon's age in the arch, floral spandrels, and inscribed "Aaron Willard. Roxbury," the reverse of the dial inscribed "J. Minott 131," inside the waist door is the paper maker's label engraved by Paul Revere and printed with red ink, "Common House Clocks, Table Spring Clocks and Timepieces of different constructions made by Aaron Willard, Roxbury...," eight-day time and strike movement, with central eagle finial and flanking ball finials, wood pendulum rod and brass-faced bob, winder, key, and two tin-cased weights, old surface, (imperfections), ht. 94 in. Note: Engraved clock labels by Revere are found in Clarence S. Brigham, Paul Revere's Engravings , pp. 122-123. fret is replaced, front of right front foot broken off (but piece is present); ,horizontal crack in base, chip from molded waist door, tiny paint loss to left of name, flaking to moon's age, calendar aperture maybe repainted, weights original.
