Rembrandt van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669) Abraham's Sacrifice, 1655 (Hind, 283; Bartsch/Hollstein, 35, i/i). Signed and dated in the plate, Henry Danby Seymour (London, 1820-1877) collector's mark to verso (Lugt, 176). Etching on stiff cream laid paper, plate size 6 1/8 x 5 1/8 in. (15.6 x 13.1 cm), matted, unframed. Condition: Margins approximately 2 mm, rich impression with drypoint burr visible in foreground. Provenance: Alice and Kurt Mühsam (Muehsam), Berlin and New York; by family descent, New York City; gift from a Mühsam (Muehsam) family descendant to the present private owner. The work is hinged along its left edge, and is otherwise as described. The paper has no doubt been cleaned at some point during its history, but there are no repairs to the sheet.
