Continental Silk and Metallic Needlework Textile Panel, c. 1748, stitched with silk and metallic threads, with central depiction of three regal figures before a basilica with several cherubs fishing in a river before them, within barley-twist columns strung with elaborate floral garland topped by a ribbon, the base with two flower-filled urns, the right hand column stitched with date 1748, on cream-colored silk ground, panel size 46 1/2 x 32 in. Sold with a handwritten note reading "Needlework of the Shrine of Katherine of Russia, subject Katherine and Peter the Great said to be finest piece of needlework in Europe but requires a new silk back and can be put on new silk without injuring the work."
