Russian Icon, "Mother of God, Joy to those who Suffer", 19th century, likely Palekh, with kovcheg panel, the center depicting the Madonna, surrounded by vignettes of suffering figures, and topped by the New Testament Trinity, with an elaborate silvered brass riza, 21 1/8 x 17 3/8 in. some darkening and bubbling of surface varnish. a few chips/surface losses to edge of depiction of Madonna from riza. surface grime, and age typical edge chipping. riza unmarked, with some rosing, edge bends, and a few light edge tears.
