Chinese Export Silver British Naval Presentation Inkstand, Hong Kong, late 19th/early 20th century, Wang Hing, maker, the pair of square inkpots with repousse decoration of figures and dragons, with ovoid lids enclosing small colorless glass pots, and flanking a dragon head pen rest, mounted to a rectangular hardwood base, possibly Hongmu, with a silver-lined pen well engraved "From Ward Room Officers H. M.S. 'Plover,'" on silver ball feet, wd. 8 3/4 in.; sold together with an associated pen, unmarked, approx. 8 troy oz. weighable silver. Note: There have been eleven ships named Plover in the British Royal Navy. In relation to China, the fourth was a survey cutter that explored that country's coast in the mid-19th century, and was illustrated in a contemporary Ackermann engraving, shown together with HMS Hebe . The eighth was a composite screw gunboat that received honors during her military service in the Boxer Rebellion of 1900. good, with minor age wear. wood faded to top surface. one glass inkpot with a rim chip, and likely with slightly ground-down rim.
