Pair of George III Silver Serving Platters, London, 1777, maker's mark WB, likely Walter Brind, oval, with gadrooned rim, engraved at rim with small mottoed coat of arms, lg. 18 1/4 in., approx. 115 troy oz. Note: The motto, "nil consire sibi" is that of the Saunders family, as well as the Earls of Winchilsea and Earl of Nottingham of the Finch family. minor age typical wear, including a few unobtrusive light dings, and a few knife marks. some wear to coats of arms from cleaning (possibly machine polished at some point). likely lacquered, with a few tiny black spots under lacquer. marks OK.
