Two Silver and Silverplate Chatelaines, late 19th-early 20th century, each formed as a bar pin suspending tools, one pin with three swallows in flight, suspending a silverplate ovoid scent flask, the handle of a tool, and a sterling acorn-form thimble case, pin lg. 4, the other pin formed as five oval links, suspending a Whiting sterling Art Nouveau notepad with silver covers and celluloid pages, a sterling pencil, a Gorham sterling acid etched Aesthetic Movement scent flask, a Webster sterling compact, and a silverplate shell-form purse, pin lg. 2 7/8 in., both pins unmarked. pins themselves unmarked, possibly silverplate. bird pin suspends the handle from a tool (i.e. it is partial--lacking paper knife blade or rattle?). lacquered, with tarnish beneath. Webster compact with machine buffing marks and denting to lid. overall age typical wear.
