Gorham Sterling Presentation Hot Water Kettle, 1871, the spherical body mounted with central bead and floral swag band, with reeding to upper and lower areas, with carved ivory and scroll handles, tap with octagonal knob and shell spout, on base with shell and scroll pierced rim and Grecian legs, engraved with presentation inscriptions, lacking lid and burner, ht. 12 in., approx. 58 troy oz. lackind lid and burner. central inscription: "E.R.C. - R.B.B. Presented to Edith Russell Church by William J. Leeds June 26, 1897." with modern inscriptions below waist band: "E.R.C. to L.B. 1942" and "L.B. to W.L.B. 1963" back of body engraved: "The board of Counselors and Faculty of Ingham University to their distinguished Chancellor and his excellent wife, Rev. Dr. & Mrs. Samuel D. Burchard, in grateful recognition of their valuable services to the Institution. Le Roy, NY May 19, 1872." minor age wear. some lining/shrinkage crack to ivory.
