Pair of Wedgwood Rosso Antico and Black Basalt Egyptian Sphinxes, England, late 18th century, the seated figures supporting candleholders between the wings, the base applied with Egyptian motifs, impressed marks, ht. 9 3/4 in. Literature: Illustrated in Wedgwood I by R. Reilly, plate C127. One with restored candle nozzle and a slight chip to the side of the headdress; the other with restored chips to nozzle and to edges of base.
