Max Beckmann (German, 1884-1950) Bildnis Georg Swarzenski, 1921, edition of about 30 (Hofmaier, 188Bb). Signed "Beckmann" in pencil l.r. Lithograph on paper, image size 15 7/8 x 8 3/8 in. (40.2 x 21.2 cm), framed. Condition: Pale foxing, not examined out of frame. Provenance: From the family of Georg Swarzenski (curator at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, 1939-1956) to the family of the present owner. Out of the frame the sheet measures 20 3/8 x 15 1/2 inches with a deckled left edge. At some point three of the four margins were folded under, so with the exception of the right margin, each has a crease parallel to its edge. The sheet is gently toned, and there is unobtrusive soiling to the margins.
