Portrait Miniature of a Sea Captain, c. 1830, watercolor on ivory, showing an oval bust-length likeness of the seaman wearing a blue jacket with brass anchor buttons, white vest, frilled shirt, and black cravat with a rock formation beyond his right shoulder and the sea on the left, 2 1/2 x 2 in., in a gilt-brass locket frame, the reverse bordered with blue glass and centered with an oval aperture containing a plait of hair. Condition: Good, blue glass border with two cracks. The interior of glass is spotted but there might be some scattered minute yellowish brown spots possibly mold, on the surface of the ivory too.
