William Frederick De Haas (American, 1830-1880) Stormy Coast alternatively titled Rocky Shores Signed and dated "William F. de Haas '74" l.l., identified on a presentation plaque, inscribed "WILLIAM F. DE HAAS 1874 ROCKY SHORES" in a later hand on the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 22 x 36 in. (55.9 x 91.5 cm), framed, with a Newcomb-Macklin Co. label affixed to the reverse. Condition: Lined, varnish inconsistencies, minor scattered retouch, minor scattered surface losses, light surface abrasions, signature and date pentimento l.l., craquelure. The lining is adhered with glue. A second, larger and earlier signature by De Haas (with a date of 73) is faintly visible just benath the signature.
