Flemish School, 16th Century The Holy Family with the Infant St. John the Baptist and St. Elizabeth Initialed "AvD I fc..." l.r. Graphite and whiting on laid paper, sight size 14 3/4 x 18 in. (37.5 x 45.7 cm), framed. Condition: Laid onto panel, foxing, small tear l.l. corner, restored tear in u.r. quadrant, acid burn. Sheet laid onto cardstock which is glued in the margins recto to a paper mat, the paper mat is glued to a wood panel creating an "air pocket" behind the drawing and preventing examination of the reverse of the work, restored tear to the u.r. quadrant approximately 7 1/2 in. length, restored tear to the l.r. quadrant approx. 2 1/4 in. length, restored tear to the l.l. quadrant approx. 1 1/2 in. length, paper loss to the l.l. approx. 1/4 x 1/8 in., scattered foxing, several mounting bubbles. PROVENANCE: Purchased in Strasbourg before WWII.
