Doris Emrick Lee (American, 1905-1983) Grapefruit in Bowl Signed "Doris Lee" l. c., identified on an Associated American Artists, New York, label affixed to the reverse. Oil on canvasboard, 16 x 20 in. (40.6 x 50.8 cm), framed. Condition: Retouch and varnish inconsistencies, signature possibly reinforced. Green leaves and signature have a matte surface appearance in raking light, while the rest of the composition has a subtle glossy sheen. The work has subtle varnish inconsistencies visible under UV, signature and leaves fluoresce subtly under UV but may be naturally occurring pigment fluorescence.
