Signed and numbered "David Hockney Ed D 17/100" in pencil on the colophon page, each of the six unbound prints signed in pencil l.r. and numbered in ink on the reverse. 17 3/4 x 12 1/4 in. (45.0 x 31.0 cm), in a blue leather binding with slip case. Condition: Minor wear to case. Provenance: Purchased from the publisher, 1977; the estate of Mary Lee Ingbar, Cambridge, Massachusetts. N.B. The lot is accompanied by a miniature facsimile of the book and by a copy of Donna Stein's Contemporary Illustrated Books: Words and Images 1967-1988 (Independent Curators Incorporated: New York, 1989). The loose etchings are titled as follows: #2 Princess in her Tower ( The Little Sea Hare); #14 The Enchantress with the Baby Rapunzel (Rapunzel); #21 The Sexton disguised as a ghost stood still as stone (The Boy Who Left Home...); #23 The Haunted Castle (The Boy Who Left Home...); #25 A Black Cat Leaping (The Boy Who Left Home...); #29 The Glass Mountain (Old Rinkrack). The pagination is complete and there is no soiling or wear.
