Naval Dirk, probably France, made for the American market, c. 1800-20, carved ivory open beak eagle head pommel, tapered oval reeded ivory and silver banded handle, scrolled silver handguard and silver ferrule, 13 1/2 in. curved single edge steel blade with faint engraved foliage, red leather scabbard with nickeled steel mounts, (imperfections), overall lg. approx. 19 in. CONDITION: the blade has scattered surface rust,the tip has been rounded, most of the engraved foliage is worn off, the handle and pommel has several age cracks, the scabbard tip is broken off, an approx. 1 1/2 in. tear in the leather mid-way. Maker's marks include a crown over a "B," crossed twigs, and two other indistinct marks.
