Box Containing Assorted Small Chinese Export Items and a Bamboo Chair Sample, China, 19th century, the relief-carved possibly sandalwood box containing an assortment of small carved ivory, hardstone, bone, silver, and wooden trinkets with nine small boxes, a carved wooden whimsey inscribed "Made by the Capt. of the Ship Herald of the morning in the North Pacific Ocean August 5th 1868," accompanied by a miniature bamboo chair sample with original label on the bottom of the seat, box ht. 3, wd. 9 3/4, dp. 4; chair ht. 7 1/2 in. nine small boxes some covered in silk with glass tops, some wooden; containing a silver filigree brooch, a pair of silver filigree earings, a small carved ivory plaque depicting a girl with an apron of grapes, and seven carved ivory buttons, a carved ivory brooch with a stag, carved ivory fish bead, a boken ivory brooch and a small carved tortoiseshell wiggley turtle figure, a carnelian shirt button and two broken buttons, two coral buttons, a small slide-lid box containing 27 tiny carved bone dominoes, a tiny slide-lid box containg two tiny bone dice; accompanied by seven oval and nine caved and pierced wooden beads and small containers, a knotted cord necklace with 3 carved cinnabar beads, also two carved stone arrow heads, a bone ring, and a rattlesnake tail.
